Blockwilt , 2025

Andaz Hotel, One Bangkok

Technique : Mixed media

Size : W 970 x H 470 cm

Blockwilt incorporates motifs of iconic landmarks and familiar places, congregating disparate elements, including a clock tower in Lumpini Park, an ambassador's residence on Wireless Road, even the ubiquitous tangle of power lines. This intricate interplay of literally and figuratively stitched-together elements transcends mere representation, becoming an emergent tactile narrative that resonates deeply with a sense of place and memory.
Born in Bangkok, Ploenchan Vinyaratn spent 15 formative years living and working in the Rachadamn-Lumpini area, imbuing this artwork with an intimate familiarity and profound connection to locale. Through synthesis of personal and communal history, Blockwilt invites a reflection of the ever-evolving metropolis' vibrant, sensuous spirit, while also paying homage to sufficiency economy through Vinyaratn's characteristic use of upcycled materials.
