The Atelier.
The atelier is a women led textile studio rooted in care, time and shared making. At its heart are 14 women weavers who have worked together for over two decades. They began with no formal training, allowing intuition and curiosity to shape an unconventional way of weaving.
Materials are created in house, spun from paper, hand cut from aluminium cans, and transformed from discarded plastic PET bottles. These fibres are woven, crocheted, knotted and knitted by hand. Techniques are not fixed but grow through listening to the material and responding to its resistance and possibilities.
The work asks for patience. Each piece unfolds slowly through repetition, learning and trust. Many works take months to complete, shaped by collective labour and quiet dedication.
The atelier is a community, one extended family. The women live nearby, walking or cycling to the studio each day. Some looms are so wide they require four weavers working as one, their movements forming a gentle choreography.
This is not only a place of making, but a space of continuity and shared strength. Every work carries time, touch and the lives of the women who made it.
