About the artist
Ploenchan Vinyaratn (known as Mook)
b. 1972, Bangkok, Thailand
Ploenchan Vinyaratn is a Thai contemporary textile artist whose practice transforms discarded materials into large scale woven structures that move between sculpture, installation, and spatial environment. Working with remnants of fabric, aluminum cans, plastic waste, and reclaimed textiles, she explores how material memory, environmental systems, and cultural histories become physically intertwined.
Her installations often respond directly to architectural space, expanding traditional textile techniques into immersive environments. Through processes of weaving, stitching, and assemblage, Vinyaratn reorganizes overlooked materials into new structural forms that reflect on cycles of value, consumption, and ecological change. The tactile qualities of these materials remain visible within the work, emphasizing the relationship between human activity and the environments in which materials circulate.
Vinyaratn’s works frequently address themes of landscape, ecological systems, and collective memory. By combining handwoven textile structures with industrial and reclaimed materials, her installations invite viewers to move through spaces where craft, environmental reflection, and contemporary sculpture inter-sect.
In 2024, Mook received the Angela Award for Lifetime Achievement (Ursuline Schools Network of Thailand), honouring her dual legacy as an artist and advocate advancing material consciousness across cultures. Her works are displayed in major public and private venues throughout Thailand and have been exhibited internationally, including Singapore, Korea, Greece, and the United States.
Selected exhibitions and installations include Adam’s Bridge and Woven Symphony (Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, 2022); Rippling Veil (Museum of Contemporary Art Bangkok, 2024); Afterfract (Cheongju Craft Biennale, 2025); You Are Here (Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Bangkok Climate Action Week, 2025); and Mitta del Santi (Bangkok Kunsthalle, 2025).
Ploenchan Vinyaratn lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand.
