A key event of the Ramakien epic occurs when the ten-faced Demon King Thotsakan abducts Nang Sida, consort to the heroic Phra Ram. Phra Ram’s ally, the Monkey god Hanuman locates Nang Sida in Thotsakan’s kingdom of Lanka. There,

Hanuman is captured by Indrachit, the eldest son of Thotsakan. However, the Monkey god escapes to the mainland to alert Phra Ram, who musters an army to march into Lanka to rescue his beloved Sida.
